EVENING AND WEEKEND APPOINTMENTS
From the 1st July 2026 all patients in GP practices within Prestwich and Whitefield Primary Care Networks will be able to access evening and weekend appointments at two local venues.
This includes patients from The Elms Medical Centre.
The current Enhanced Access service provides evening and weekend appointments to all patients across the Borough from sites at Prestwich Health Centre, Moorgate Primary Care Centre in Bury and Radcliffe Medical Practice.
The new service – designed with feedback from patients – will provide the patients from Prestwich and Whitefield GP practices with access to evening and weekend appointments at Prestwich Health Centre (Fairfax Group Practice) M25 1BT and Unsworth Medical Centre, Parr Lane, BL9 8JR
What does the Enhanced Access service mean for individual patients?
- Evening and weekend appointments: appointments are available each weekday from 6:30PM to 8:00PM and between 9:00AM and 1:00PM on both Saturday and Sunday
- Increased convenience: appointments for patients of all GP practices within Prestwich and Whitefield Primary Care Network will take place Prestwich Health Centre (Fairfax Group Practice) and Unsworth Medical Centre
- Weekend appointments: patient feedback has informed the weekend appointment slots – from 9:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday and Sunday – to support concerns about attending late evening appointments in winter months, and to provide appointments across both days to respect religious commitments
- In-person appointments: all appointments will be face-to-face with clinicians
- Bookable clinic appointments: appointments to Practice Nurse clinics – immunisation clinics for example – can be booked seven days a week
- Multi-disciplinary team of clinicians: appointments can be available with a GP, practice nurse or healthcare expert and will be staffed by clinicians from across the Prestwich and Whitefield practices
- Integrated care: clinicians within the Primary Care Network work together. All will have full access to your medical records to ensure you receive safe and appropriate treatment
